Is Amoxicillin good to cure heart worms in dogs?
Not at all. Amoxicillan is an antibiotic, prednisone is a steroid and pet-tinic is a vitamin supplement. I would UME this is the first step in your dogs treatment and your vet is prepping your dog for the real whammie medicines that kill the heartworms. Heartworm treatment is very very hard on a dog's immune system and it sounds as if your vet is trying to strengthen your dogs system before using the toxins (yes, toxins) to kill the heartworms. Do as your vet says...he has your best interests at heart. Please spread the word to your friend that, in the case of heartworms, prevention is definitely the way to go. Best of luck for you and your pup.
