When you confess your sins to Jesus how does that help to eradicate sin alltogether?

It doesn't. Confession has nothing whatsoever to do with obtaining salvation. You could confess all day long, and it would not matter a whit. God chose those who are destined to be forgiven (saved). He selected them before he created the world.
